Russian architecture studio Meganom is wrapping its under-construction 262 Fifth Avenue skyscraper in Manhattan with more than 200,000 custom laser-cut aluminium elements. The panels are arranged in rows that mimic the rhythm of traditional brickwork, most prominently on the building's shear wall.
Creating a bespoke facade system at this scale is rare in contemporary high-rise construction, where standardised glazing systems dominate.
Why it mattersThe project demonstrates that bespoke facade fabrication at massive scale is achievable, and may push architects to reconsider standard curtain-wall glazing on future towers.
