Abu Dhabi has started construction on Dar al Funoon, a performing arts venue designed by architect Frank Gehry before his death. The building will sit on Saadiyat Island alongside Gehry's Guggenheim Abu Dhabi museum, reinforcing the island as a cultural centre.

Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism made the announcement. The venue is expected to open in 2030.
