Ngurra Kayanta adds 1.9 million hectares to reserve system
Traditional Owners will manage a vast Kimberley protected area spanning habitat, cultural knowledge and connected Country.
Ngurra Kayanta Indigenous Protected Area was formally dedicated near Balgo in Western Australia's south-eastern Kimberley. It adds more than 1.9 million hectares to the National Reserve System, including habitat for bilbies, night parrots, princess parrots and red goshawks.
Traditional Owners and Ngurra Kayanta Aboriginal Corporation will manage Country with partners, targeting feral cats, camels and buffel grass while conducting surveys and monitoring.
