Loose grate injures disabled pedestrian in Warrnambool CBD
A disabled person was hurt stepping on loose metal covering on Koroit Street; the council has scheduled footpath renewal later this year.
Carmel Chamier saw a disabled person hurt after stepping on a loose metal grate near Westpac. She reported it to authorities.
The council placed a bright yellow cover over the grate. Chamier has now called for better footpath upgrades.
She says many residents have fallen on the uneven CBD paths. The council plans to upgrade Koroit Street later this year.
But the work will likely use asphalt, not the stronger bluestone pavers used on nearby Liebig Street.
Why it mattersUnsafe footpaths injure elderly people, people with mobility issues, and families with toddlers who use Warrnambool's shopping precinct.
