Farley says One Nation's migration stance 'not too different' from Labor's
On ABC Insiders, One Nation MP David Farley said his party's 130,000 net migration target plus 100,000 extra skilled and agricultural workers made its approach similar to Labor's.
One Nation MP David Farley appeared on the ABC's Insiders program on Sunday. He said his party's 130,000 net migration target did not include skilled workers, backpackers and Pacific and Timor-Leste workers through Australia's labour scheme.
He said there would be room for a minimum 100,000 additional migrant workers in critical industries like aged care. This would be about 40,000 Pacific workers and 70,000 skilled workers.
"The raw number is not too different to the government's," Farley said, "but where do we need them? We don't need them in the great urban metroplex.
We need them out to be productive, working in agriculture, engineering, mining." But Pauline Hanson quickly corrected him on social media, insisting "One Nation's policy is to cut net overseas migration to 130,000".
This is the second time Hanson has had to correct Farley's comments.
Why it mattersIf you're considering One Nation, mixed messages from its own MPs about what the party actually wants on migration make it hard to understand its real policy.
AustraliaAnyone weighing a One Nation vote gets mixed signals on migration policy, and that uncertainty matters most in the seats the party is targeting.
